Job Description

Position Overview:

The Library Assistant Technical Services shall meet the qualifications for that specialty and perform essentially the same functions, within the scope of acceptable for their technical professional discipline and standard, as those required by military and/or government service technical professionals of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.

Primary/MajorDuties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Provide information service such as answering questions regarding card catalogs and assists in the use of bibliographic tools, such as the Library of Congress catalog.

  • Perform routine cataloging of library materials, file cards in catalog drawers according to system used, answer routine inquiries, and refer persons requiring professional assistance to a Librarian.

  • Verifies bibliographic information on order request, maintain collection, receive collection acquisitions, or operate limited loan or reserve desk.

Required Skills

RequiredEducation and Experience:

  • Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.

  • Requires two years’ experience in a library or related field. Basic computer proficiency is necessary.

PreferredEducation and Experience

  • AA degree desirable.
